Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate

No Surprises Act โ€” Federal Requirement

Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your medical care will cost before you receive services.

Under the law, healthcare providers need to give patients who don't have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.
  • You can ask your healthcare provider for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.
  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit cms.gov/nosurprises or call the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services at 1-800-985-3059.

Vantage Counseling's Commitment: We are committed to transparent, honest pricing. If you would like a Good Faith Estimate before scheduling your first appointment, please contact us at 208.837.1553 or pgvantagecounseling@gmail.com.

Insurance & Billing Questions

Common questions about insurance coverage, copays, and billing at Vantage Counseling.

Do you accept my insurance?+
Vantage Counseling accepts Blue Cross, Humana, Mountain Health Co-Op, PacificSource, Regence Blue Shield, SelectHealth, St. Luke's Health Plan, and Aetna. If your plan is not listed, you may still be able to receive reimbursement as an out-of-network provider. Contact us at 208.837.1553 or email pgvantagecounseling@gmail.com to discuss your options.
What is the difference between a copay and coinsurance?+
A copay is a fixed dollar amount you pay per visit (e.g., $30 per therapy session). Coinsurance is a percentage of the allowed amount you're responsible for after meeting your deductible (e.g., 20% of the session cost). Your specific responsibility depends on your plan โ€” check your insurance card or call your insurance company to find out which applies to you.
Will my insurance cover couples counseling?+
Insurance coverage for couples counseling varies by plan. Many insurance companies require a diagnosis for one partner to cover couples therapy. It's best to contact your insurance provider directly to ask about your mental health benefits and any specific requirements for couples or marriage counseling coverage.
What does 'out-of-pocket maximum' mean?+
Your out-of-pocket maximum is the most you'll have to pay for covered services in a plan year. Once you've reached this amount through copays, coinsurance, and deductibles, your insurance covers 100% of covered services for the rest of the year. Knowing your out-of-pocket maximum can help you plan for therapy costs.
How do I verify my mental health benefits?+
To verify your mental health benefits, call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask: (1) Is Vantage Counseling or Paul Garn, LCPC in-network? (2) What is my copay or coinsurance for outpatient mental health services? (3) Do I have a deductible to meet first? (4) Are there any limits on the number of sessions covered per year?
What is a Good Faith Estimate?+
Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected costs before your first appointment if you are uninsured or choosing not to use insurance. This estimate outlines the expected cost of services so you can make informed decisions about your care. Vantage Counseling is committed to providing transparent pricing โ€” contact us for your Good Faith Estimate.
